There are five main parts that constitute a bride’s wedding day look – the dress, the shoes, the undergarments, the hair, and finally the jewelry. Although most brides think about the first four in great deal, some tend to overlook the last choice. The problem is though that the jewelry they wear can make or break your outfit. Too much and it will overshadow the dress you spent hours searching for, and add up to a gaudy look. Too little and it may not give your entire appearance that little extra glitz that it needs. Although the most important piece of jewelry any girl will be wearing by the end of their wedding day is their wedding band, it doesn’t mean we aren’t allowed to glamour ourselves up a little?

There are two main things you need to take into consideration when choosing your jewelry for your big day – your dress, and your hair. When thinking about the types of jewelry that you may wear, the trends this year that are continuing into 2012 tend to exude a more vintage and classic elegance, with pearls, diamonds, and crystals taking an elegant step forward.

When thinking about necklace options, it really depends upon the type of cut your dress is. If you have a strapless dress, then perhaps a shorter choker style necklace would be a better idea, such as the three-strand version in the picture below (picture a), or even a simple one strand necklace with longer pendent in the front (picture b). Also, if you have a simpler gown, don’t be afraid to experiment with longer necklaces and layers of them. However, if your gown has a lot of embellishments and/or a higher neckline, it may be a better idea to forgo a necklace all together.

Earrings are also a popular choice. A bride can never go wrong with a stud earring, either elaborate ones or simple diamonds, and they can be worn with any hairstyle. Typically, the studs are a better idea if you are going to wear your hair down at the wedding, or if you plan on having some sort of hair decoration (such as head band, or flowers in your hair). However, if you are to wear your hair up in a simple chignon or loose back bun, you could possibly think about doing a chandelier style earring, or perhaps a more elaborate drop earring instead.

Some brides may also choose to wear a bracelet, but the problem some brides find is that they can either get too heavy on the wrists, or can get caught on the bottom of the dress and leave snags, so proceed with caution. Simple bangles may be a better option to wear this trend.

The one big no-no for wedding jewelry though? Rings. Let your wedding and engagement rings stand out as the only ring you'll wear that day, and for the rest of your life.
