Welcome, Fashionista's! As I'm sure many of you fashion-forward brides know, designers recently showed their lovely Spring 2013 bridal collections in New York a few weeks ago, and are we ever excited about it! With ten major trends (which we've split up nicely for you into four categories) for this upcoming wedding season, there's no way you won't find something you'll fall in love with - much like your husband-to-be!
The first trend worth mentioning is colour. That's right, the coloured wedding dress is in, ladies and gentlemen! In fact, the big colour is red. Not convinced? I wasn't either, until I saw this stunning dress from Vera Wang's collection:
But, of course, big and bold may not necessarily be for you. How about black and white? The colour scheme has been around forever, and you can't go wrong with a classic! However, for spring 2013 try spicing it up a bit. This Alfred Angelo piece shows draping black vines down the gown, adding a bit of extra whimsy to your wedding!
The next biggest trend is bold and beautiful textures. The cowl neck gown is inspired by Pippa Middleton and her dress worn to the Royal Wedding last year. Not only is this style something different, it is flattering for many different body types. It also adds a little sparkle to your gown when there are some crystals added to the neck of the sweater! This style is for the sleek and smooth bride looking to jazz up her simple, yet gorgeous gown, like this one from Badgely Mischika.
Another texture trend we've seen is the peplum. A peplum will add a retro vibe to your gown and your special day. What is a peplum, you ask? Well, the best way we can describe it is to show you! The peplum has been huge in fall fashion for this year (so keep an eye out for it come September) and has had a major influence on the new bridal collections. The last texture we're going to talk about is classic lace. After Kate's beautiful gown at the Royal Wedding, lace has been the hottest thing. And who could blame us? When lace looks that good, we can't help but be obsessed! Lace overlay and lace shoulders are exactly what the doctor ordered for 2013. This amazing gown from Rivini outlines an amazing silhouette with the use of the ribbon. What do you think?
The next trend we have for you is the stunning, flashy and sassy styles of the embellished gown and the ball gown. The embellished gown is for the bold and glamorous bride who loves her details. The use of crystals or, in this case, homemade petals, adds an amazing piece to your gown. It'll give your wedding that extra bit of originality! This gown comes from the Carolina Hererra collection.
Next, we have my personal favourite, the ball gown. Every woman wants to feel like a princess on her wedding day, and there's no better way to do that than with a classic ball gown silhouette. I just adore this style, and love the extra bit of magic it seems to bring to every wedding. This is one of my favourites from Alvina Valenta - the wispy sleeves just add something so simple and beautiful to an already amazing dress!
Our last trend to take a look at is sexy and sultry styles, like one-shoulder gowns, cocktail dresses and pantsuits. One-shoulder gowns show a little bit of extra skin without going over-the-top, while at the same time adding a little modesty to your gown. It also adds a bit of an exotic or Grecian flare to your gown - who wouldn't want that! This is a gown from the Amsale collection.
The cocktail dress has been a recent trend for wedding gowns, and it hasn't slowed down yet! This is for the bride who likes to break with tradition and do her own thing...we love it. With a ruffled bottom, and almost a Black Swan hint to it, this gown from the Ines De Santo collection adds some flare!
Finally, last but not least, here are the pantsuit trends for spring 2013. Many brides on their second or third marriages - or just older brides - tend to go toward the pantsuit more than anyone else. Now, it's for anyone and everyone! This sexy style from Oscar de la Renta shows off your feminine figure, while making a strong statement at the same time. What gender roles?
