Brad and I met just over 2 years ago, Sept of 2008, out in the backwoods of Hinton. We were both out on a camping/dirt biking weekend with friends and as fate would have it, we happened to set up our campsites next to each other, and the rest is our fairy tale story.
Over the next 2 years of dating, we lived in the same city for approximately 7 months and learned a lot about communicating over the phone, IM and Facebook. In fact, about 2 weeks before he was to return home after being away for 8 months, he asked me to marry him...over the phone. Then, when he arrived home, he asked me the traditional way, on bended knee. True to our love of dirt biking, I asked that he save the money he could spend on an expensive ring and put it towards my very own "engagement" dirt bike. He did, and I've since put many miles it alongside him - actually, we went riding out with friends and family the day after our wedding!!
With Brad being in the Canadian Armed Forces, and a member of the Lord Strathcona's here in Edmonton, we wanted to have a military themed wedding. My father is also a serving member of the Forces, and many years ago I was in the military, so it seemed a fitting way to celebrate our wedding. The day itself couldn't have gone any better (besides one of the groomsmen being MIA, but who was quickly apprehended)....from the minute I woke up to the minute we went to bed it was the BEST day of my life...and I'm fairly certain I can speak for Brad that it was the best day of his life too!
The entire wedding was kept to a simple black and white color scheme. After the ceremony, Brad and I were taken away in the back of one of his Regiment's Coyotes (a military light armoured vehicle) to our pictures that we had taken at the golf course on base. The rest of the evening was spent celebrating with friends and family.
