Makeup can be a girl’s best friend or, their worst enemy if you’re not exactly sure what you’re doing. Not all women have time to go to the make-up counter at Sephora to go through everything to keep that makeup looking extra radiant on your wedding day. Not to mention the struggle of making sure it looks 10/10 for hours on end until all the pictures and dancing is over. Nevertheless I am here to help! As a slight makeup guru I have put much thought into what a bride must have when getting their wedding makeup done by a professional or if you’re choosing to do it yourself! No need to thank me but here are some products to save your look on your special day!
Moisturizer is your best friend!—A successful makeup day starts with a well-nourished clean canvas. Some people steer away from moisturizers as they worry about break outs or creating too much oil on the skin as you are still yet to apply any sort of foundation. Not to fear ladies this is a moisturizer perfect for all sorts of skin types that will not clog any pores, or irritate your sensitive skin. This is a moisturizer that I myself live by for the fact that it is cruelty free and free of any Parabens, Sulfates, and Phthalates. First Aid Beauty’s Ultra Repair Face Moisturizer is cost effective moisturizer that you can purchase from Sephora for only $30.00 and you will not regret it! I would apply this right after you have thoroughly cleansed your face. It will leave your skin feeling soft and firm. Happy skin makes for an even clean canvas when applying any other makeup products on your skin.
Prime Time!—There are so many primers out there that are not good for the skin. Pore filling primers are the ones to stay away from unless you are willing to spend 5 minutes scrubbing your face every night to remove the filler from your pores. I find that any matte primers leave my skin feeling dry after a few hours and don’t hold on to my foundation the way it should. I’ve gone through a bunch of different primers just so you wouldn’t have to and I’ve found the golden ticket! Smashbox’s Photo Finish Primer Water is a lovely smelling primer that you lightly spray on your face after you moisturize. You can believe that your makeup will look fresh and radiant all day. Tip: After you’ve had all your makeup applied just do a couple quick sprays to set any powder or foundation. Then you can put your highlighter on and it will actually stick on the skin better than if you were just putting it over foundation. I much prefer this over any sort of setting spray.
Foundation Classification—is key! Just because it works good on your favorite Instagram star does not mean it will work as good for you. When thinking about what foundation to use you need to think about a couple things. 1. What is your skin type? 2. Are you looking for light, medium, or full coverage? 3. Is your skin dry, oily, sensitive? They’re the most important things to think about when choosing the right foundation for you! I’ve provided two examples of foundation for people with dry, oily, and sensitive skin. For someone who has dry skin I would not use something with a matte finish because it will dry your skin even more, which will leave your skin feeling a tad irritated at the end of the day. I am going to recommend using tarte Amazonian Clay BB Tinted Moisturizer Broad Spectrum SPF 20 Sunscreen. And why I’m suggesting this because despite what you think about BB creams this actually is very pigmented and super buildable. This is personally my favorite because some days I want my freckles to show and some days I don’t. When I use this I just have to apply a second layer and they are all covered. This supplies you with the moisture and protection your dry skin would need on day that you want to look 10/10 for. For sensitive skin I would also throw this in the mix instead as well! All tarte products are cruelty free and free of any Parabens, Sulfates, and Phthalates. Usually when switching foundation I give a week of room before any important date to see how my skin reacts with it. With this BB cream I didn’t break out at all and I’ve been using it ever since. Last but not least we are left with the handful of ladies that have oily skin, and although I don’t have it myself I know how to treat your skin if you do. For this I would suggest NARS All Day Luminous Weightless Foundation because this lovely formula dries nice and matte. Don’t fret since it’s lightweight because this is also a very pigmented and buildable foundation. TIP: For stubborn dry skin add a drop of coconut oil in your foundation to make it extra smooth. This also helps repair your skin throughout the day!
Get Ready, Get SET, & Go! – On a day like your wedding day the last thing you want is for all that hard work of making your skin look like Kim Kardashians just to have it all bead off and basically evaporate before you have the chance to say “I do.” Another issue you may have is that your setting powder likes to create a tint darker than your skin as the day goes on. This means the powder is a little oxidizing; kind of how copper goes green on your skin. To avoid all of these things, grab yourself tarte’s Smooth Operator™ Amazonian Clay Finishing Powder from Sephora. Whether you are looking for a light setting finish or a bake under your eyes after concealer this is going to give you that extra security that your skin needs.
And that’s a wrap for anything that you might need to consider getting for the FACE. Next time will be all about the eyes, lips, and obviously the highlight. You day is supposed to be the day you feel the most beautiful. It’s a moment that will be cherished forever in videos and pictures so have fun with it!
