Choosing your Wedding DJ

It’s time to select your wedding DJ. Bridal Fantasy has come up with a list of tips and tricks to help you find the perfect one for your perfect day.
What is the DJ’s selection like? Are they going to be able to play the songs you want to hear and how often to they update their library? Are they going to be able to interact with your guests and get them involved without going over the line?
Price shouldn’t be the majority deciding factor when choosing a DJ. Decide what your budget is and then let deciding factors be the services you can get within your budge range. DJ prices can run anywhere from $400 and up, depending on the time and the experience of your DJ. You want a more experienced DJ at your wedding, even though it can cost more. Experience usually means better.
Find out if the DJ you are interviewing has done weddings in your venue before. This goes back to experience. They may know the best location for the DJ in your hall or issues that could arise. This doesn’t mean you should automatically say “no” to the DJ if they haven’t, it’s just a good point in their favour.
Find out if the person you are interviewing will be the actual DJ at your wedding. This is a detail you should have spelled out very clearly in your contract. You would hate to have spent all that time interviewing this DJ to have someone else from the company show up at your wedding that you have never met!
Your contract should clearly spell out all costs including overtime, assistants, lighting or any other fees. Any verbal promises that are made need to be added into the contract. You don’t want surprises at your wedding and your contract should be a game plan that covers all the bases.
The attire of your DJ should go with the wedding. If you’re having a black-tie affair then your DJ should be in a tuxedo as well. The same goes for a smaller, more casual wedding. Discuss with your DJ and make sure it is clear to both sides what the expectations are. Be sure to discuss feeding your DJ as well. Some DJ’s don’t want to eat on the job and others expect it. You will need to know if your DJ is eating (and any assistants) so you can plan with your caterer accordingly.
There are a lot of DJ’s out there who can give you a wonderful evening without a lot of the cost. You have to decide if you want the extra lighting, the tech show and any other additional services your DJ might offer. For some couples, they don’t need nor want any of the extra stuff and others feel it wouldn’t be a wedding reception without. Whatever you and your fiancé decide to do, make sure all the parties involved know exactly what is expected of them. Happy hunting!
