Your Wedding Registry

In these times, couples can find a registry for pretty much anything you can think of. Camping supplies, power tools, furniture, appliances, the list could go on and on. If you can dream it, you can probably find it on a registry.

Basically, you want to register with a store that caters to your tastes and needs while keeping in mind the convenience of your guests. Shops that have an on-line ordering system are ideal, especially for out-of-town guests. Don't feel that you can only register at one store either. If you want to go to HBC for your linens and china, but have a favourite camping store in your city, register at both! Plan to spend a lot of time at the store, and make it a special day for just you and your fiancé.

There are still some traditional items on bridal registries like china, but some couples opt for dinnerware, which is less formal and has more “everyday” patterns. Glassware and crystal are popular, especially for the couple who likes to entertain. Consider putting the bar set you have always wanted on your registry. You'll find a lot of people will purchase pieces of the set and if you're lucky you won't have any fill ins to do! Cookware is a great choice but make sure you choose full sets. You don't want to end up with the cake pan and spatula, but missing the serving sets that match. Things like linens, which include placemats, tablecloths and towels, are a nice touch for your guests. They can purchase these as a set or in addition to other items. If you want decorative items, try to be specific and stay within a particular style. The easier you can make it for your guests, the happier everyone will be!

Make sure to have a wide price range on your gift registry. While it's true you can register for just about anything, you need to consider the budgets of your guests and the lower priced items can also serve as shower gifts.

Finally, for the destination wedding couple or the couple leaving on their honeymoon, ask your travel agent about their registry. Your guests can choose to help pay for some of your travel expenses or treat you to a breakfast-in-bed while you're away on your trip.
