Wedding Tuxedos

Formal Wear Finale: Tuxedos and Other Options for the Men in your Wedding

It goes without saying that the groom should look just as amazing as the bride on the wedding day. In today’s market the guy is making more decisions when it comes to his wedding attire and that of his groomsmen on the wedding day. Some guys rent tuxedos, some buy a tuxedo or a suit and some do a combination of both.

With wedding parties getting larger, many grooms today need to plan further ahead because there are more people to coordinate – fathers, brothers, grandfathers, nephews, just to name a few. If you are renting your tuxedos you want to book well in advance. For the busier season (May – September) you want to book a minimum of 4 months in advance but we recommend you book as soon as possible. If you are getting married during the slower season (October – April) then a minimum of 3 months should be sufficient.

Formal

If you are one of the lucky ones who will be purchasing your own tuxedo, this puts you into a very prestigious group. The primary distinguishing factor between a rental and retail garment is the fabric. You want your tux to be extremely lightweight and breathable so you will be comfortable. The style of your tuxedo is completely up to you. Keep in mind that this garment should last you 5+ years, so make sure it’s something you can live with throughout the years. Try to stay away from extreme trends and lean more towards a traditional tuxedo.

Accessories may be the most important part of your outfit. With all of the options available, you will be able to find the perfect look for your wedding day. Vests, ties, cufflinks and shoes – to name a few – come in a variety of colours and styles.

Choose a good formal shirt in a candlelight, white or ivory (depending on the colour of your bride’s dress). Make sure the collar is good and solid, meaning it won’t lose its shape throughout the day. If you are getting married in the summer, consider renting or purchasing another shirt and change partway through the day.

All of these tips are great for the groom who wants a tuxedo, but what about a more casual wedding? Suits can be dressed up or down to fit the feel and theme of your wedding day and are an especially good option if you do not want a wedding tuxedo. Most grooms who choose to go with a suit purchase it, with good reason. A suit never goes out of style, and you can change the look with great denim or a nice v-neck shirt instead of collared. The key to wearing a suit for your wedding attire is to pick the right tie that picks up a colour in the bride’s ensemble (like her bouquet).

A fantastic suit with a great shirt, amazing cufflinks, a fabulous tie and a cutting-edge boutonniere will ensure your look is perfect for your wedding day.

So whether you go with a tuxedo or a suit, remember that the groom should look amazing because while everyone in the church will be watching her walk down the aisle to meet you, she is going to watching you.

The most important thing with linen is that the fabric is natural and it has a natural look. When purchasing linen clothing, one must know that there will be wrinkles, but that’s one of the delicate and unique features of linen. If you notice any heavy wrinkles, don’t worry, most hotels have in-house dry cleaning so get them to dry-clean it and the wrinkles will relax from the travel. Make sure that linen clothing is always hung up as it is super easy for it to wrinkle. Other than that, just relax, enjoy the hot weather, and have fun.

To look absolutely perfect, linen should be pressed. But if you’re doing your own washing, you can avoid some of the work. Never over-dry the fabric and avoid using the high dryer temperature while drying. Remove your clothes as soon as the dryer is done. If you can, put out the corners and press them by hand. All of these steps can greatly reduce the amount of ironing you have to do later.
