How do you know they’re the one?
Ever here the saying, “When you know, you know?” For some people it takes months or years when it finally hits them. There is so much that goes into building a strong foundation with your partner that happens without you even thinking about it. One day you’ll wake up and you think—I love him(her), he’s(she’s) the one. But how do you know for sure. What does it take to get to the point that you want to spend forever with the one you love?
It starts with trust. One of the main focal points to a relationship is being able to trust the person you are sleeping next to. To trust that they won’t hurt you, deceive you, or leave you. To trust that you two will make good decisions together and carry each other through the hard times when things get tough. Trust everything will be okay. It’s corny but it makes perfect sense when you’re told to turn around, close your eyes, and fall backwards off of a chair and trust that they are going to catch you. Because you never know what the other is thinking you have to walk around blind and trust each other in every way. This is how you become best friends. You’re able to tell them everything and act silly knowing that you can trust them to stay by your side. Home is where the heart is.
Communication is key. I can’t emphasis enough about the importance of being able to talk to your partner about everything. When something is wrong you speak up. When you love someone, you tell them and you show them that you truly care. Compromising and understanding each other’s ticks and working around them is called communicating. When you bottle things up inside you become angry and bitter towards not only your significant other but other people in your life. You want to have an open door policy and make sure you are always making team decisions, even if it’s just for the little things. When you feel like you can go to your partner about everything then you know they are someone you’re okay being stuck with forever.
There’s the look. It’s a big one, and you can call me crazy but there is a look that your person gives you and you give them. Something that you share that is more intimate and you don’t even have to say anything. It’s the spark the two of you share. Love does crazy things but it still retains its purity and innocence. If after a settled argument, or a consistent lack of doing the dishes you still look at each other the same. You know you’ve found the one.
You get along great with your partners family. Family is so important and at times isn’t always put at the center of your life when things get crazy, but they should be the opinions that matter the most to you. Because at the end of the day your family will always be there for you if things never worked out. You want them to know you care about this person and that you want be a part of everything that they love and that includes the parents and family. It’s okay to be nervous but you want them to be your family one day too.
They are simple little things you notice and take recognition to sometimes without even knowing. So now when you someone asks you, “how did you know they were the one?” you’ll know how to answer.
