Bridal showers are a fun opportunity for the bride-to-be to celebrate her upcoming wedding with friends and family members. Typically hosted by the Maid of Honour or bridesmaids, the guests include female friends, family members and other relatives. Or, if the couple prefers, co-ed or couple’s showers are gaining popularity.
Since guests are expected to bring a gift, etiquette states that only those invited to the wedding should be invited to the shower. If there will be more than one shower, ensure that the hosts of the different parties compare their guest lists.
Whether you’re choosing to do a bridal or couple’s shower, a classic part of the shower are the games! Switch things up and try one of these fun games for laughter-filled bridal showers!
Etiquette 911
Write wedding etiquette scenarios on index cards; the crazier, the better! Think of some nightmare situations like a guest bumping into the bride with a glass of red wine or two bridesmaids getting into a fight at the altar. Hand out one etiquette card to each guest and have them write down an honest response to the situation. Then, have the bridal party gather all the cards and read the wacky answers aloud.
Bangle Shakedown
Before the game, create a list of overused wedding-related words or exclamations (e.g. bride, wedding, dress, “Aww!”) and chose a few to forbid. As guests arrive, give each lady a bracelet and a little note listing the forbidden words. Tell them that if they hear another person saying a restricted word, she gets to take the offender’s bracelet. At the end of the party, the person with the most bracelets gets a prize, plus the cute bracelets on her arm!
The Cinderella Bride
Best suited for a co-ed shower or “couples-only” shower where women will be with their husbands or boyfriends.
Without giving any clues about the game, have all of the men leave the room. While the men are gone, have all the women take off their shoes. Each woman will put shoe in the centre of the room and the other shoe to the side in a pile.
When this is done and the pile is nice and mixed up, have the men return. When the whistle blows, the men need to pick up the shoe that they think fits their partner and put it on her foot. If it doesn’t fit, or is not hers, they need to put the shoe back in the center and get another.
Most men don’t know which shoe is their partner’s and that creates some hilarious drama. Even if they remember their partner’s shoe, it will be tricky to pick the right one in all of the chaos!
